Teachers
Ms. Rachel Glass
Ms. Glass began teaching at Happy Days in 2013 after completing an Advanced Certificate in Reception Year Teaching as well as a degree in B.Ed (General Education). She went into teaching as she wanted to serve and make a difference somewhere where she could also enjoy children, and felt that teaching was the best place to do that.
“I’ve always enjoyed art and I’ve grown into really enjoying children’s art. It is such a great way to teach young children and we use it throughout their learning. The children are so spontaneous and creative at this age, and in Grade R. they have more freedom to be creative and have fun whilst still learning, which is why I love incorporating music, singing and movement into the classroom to link with our themes. As an adult, you get to see things afresh through their eyes because they love things so much and highlight new and different things to you. They become my teachers!”
Assisstant – Ms. Patricia (Trish) Carelse
Trish started at Happy Days in the housekeeping position for 2 years and would fill in for assistants in the classroom when they were ill.
“I’ve always loved butterflies. They remind me that it’s never too late to transform yourself. It wasn’t my intention to be a teacher. My mother always said I was too impatient, but I’ve proved her wrong! You have to be patient to work with children. In the school kitchen, I used to talk to the Lord and I said, ‘One day if I can be an assistant please can it be in the Butterfly class?’ and here I am! I wake up excited to go work.”
